In its 2019 “Leading Real Estate Law Firms” list, Commercial Property Executive ranked Jackson Walker among the top 20 real estate law practices in the nation. Derived from self-reported data for all firms, the annual survey uses a weighted formula based on a variety of factors, including revenue performance, the number of real estate attorneys, the practice’s growth, and the size and nature of its top deals.
At No. 18, one of Jackson Walker’s major transactions recognized by Commercial Property Executive was Dallas partner Cynthia Brotman Nelson’s representation of the ownership group of Ashford Hospitality Trust in the refinancing of 34 hotels comprising six separate mortgage loans with a combination of mortgage and mezzanine debt. The transaction was valued at $1.27 billion.
“To have been listed among the top 20 firms in the country for our real estate work is a privilege,” said Steven R. Martens, who chairs the Real Estate practice at Jackson Walker. “This ranking just goes to show how strong our practice is.”
With nearly 80 attorneys across seven Texas-based offices, Jackson Walker’s Real Estate practice represents clients on both sides of the negotiating table and through business cycles, from growth to decline. Since 2003, Chambers and Partners has recognized the Real Estate practice among the leading law firms in Texas. In the 2019 Chambers USA Guide, Chambers noted:
“Advises an array of clients, including investors, owners and developers, in connection with a range of sophisticated real estate transactions, including acquisitions, leasings and capital markets matters. Also houses significant capabilities in land use and zoning. Further expertise in the real estate finance space, advising both borrowers and lenders in connection with transactions across the USA. Maintains offices throughout the state, including in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.” |
In addition to the Firm’s Chambers-ranked practice, the 2019 Chambers USA Guide recognized Cindy among the top attorneys in the nation for Leisure and Hospitality.
“Cynthia Brotman Nelson is ‘very experienced, good to work with and very knowledgeable in the area,’ according to impressed sources. She is noted for her expert handling of transactions such as the refinancing, acquisition and disposition of hotel properties.” |
As one of the three largest practices at Jackson Walker, the Real Estate group was a key contributor in the Firm posting record results for 2018. In a March 2019 Texas Lawyer article regarding the role Real Estate played in boosting Jackson Walker’s gross revenue and profits per equity partner, Managing Partner Wade Cooper attributed the Firm’s results in part to the arrival of Dallas partners Cindy Nelson, Kevin Kelley, Scott Tuthill, and George Dunlap in April 2018, along with Austin real estate partner Pamela Madere in February 2018.
