Jackson Walker is pleased to announce the arrival of litigation partners Hugh E. Tanner and James H. Nye to our Houston office. Hugh and Jim are highly regarded trial attorneys focused on complex commercial litigation, primarily within the oil and gas sector.
âWe are thrilled to welcome Hugh and Jim to our litigation team,â said Wade Cooper, managing partner of Jackson Walker. âWhen you have the opportunity to add attorneys the caliber of Hugh and Jim, you do it. Their great dedication to fabulous clients makes this a huge win for Jackson Walker.â
Meet Hugh
Hugh E. Tanner is a recognized lead trial attorney focused on complex commercial litigation and âbet the companyâ lawsuits.
Notably, Hugh played a pivotal role as lead trial counsel for the worldâs largest oil field services corporation during the extensive Deepwater Horizon legal proceedings, securing a complete dismissal for the client at the close of the plaintiffsâ case.
On the decision to join Jackson Walker, Hugh said, âThe strength of Jackson Walkerâs litigation team, especially here in Houston, make this a perfect fit at the right time for our practice. We look forward to serving our clients alongside these great litigators.â
Hugh offers clients more than thirty years of experience managing lawsuits within state and federal jurisdictions and arbitration settings, and he also guides clients through federal grand jury inquiries and challenging internal investigations.
Prior to joining Jackson Walker, Hugh served as chair of the oil and gas litigation practice for an international law firm, and as a member of that firmâs executive committee. Outside his practice, Hugh has a deep passion for youth baseball and softball. He has served on the Little League International Board of Directors for more than ten years, and as Chairman since 2018.
Hugh received his J.D. and his B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi.
Meet Jim
James H. Nye focuses on complex commercial and personal injury lawsuits, leveraging his extensive experience and his background as a project manager in the petrochemical sector. Jim brings valuable insight to clients in energy, engineering/EPC, and oilfield services industries, as well as on corporate and financial matters.

âHugh and I are pleased to join one of the largest litigation groups in Texas and the Southwest,â Jim said. âJackson Walker litigators have a great reputation, and we are proud to join forces with them.â
