Biography
Jocelyn Slater is an attorney in the Trial & Appellate Litigation and Trusts & Estates sections of Jackson Walker’s Houston office. Jocelyn represents individual and corporate fiduciaries as well as beneficiaries in probate, trust, guardianship and agency matters. She offers experienced counsel related to controversies that involve fiduciary duties, trustees, executors, incapacity, powers of attorney, and governance of closely held entities and family businesses.
Her prior business and transactional experience taught her to maximize efficiency without sacrificing attention to detail. It was, however, through her representation of grieving families that she learned the most important part of practicing law: empathy. Jocelyn found a passion in navigating her clients through the complexities existing in the Texas Estates Code and Texas Trust Code and advocating for their interests during their greatest time of need.
As an advocate, Jocelyn uses her strategic understanding of estate planning and complex business structures to help clients achieve their goals and win either in the courtroom or at the negotiating table. Experienced in both jury and bench trials, Jocelyn has handled a wide variety of probate, trust and guardianship litigation matters, including: will contests; prosecution and defense of suitability and disqualification claims; property characterization; challenges to testamentary documents and property transfers due to lack of capacity; will and trust interpretations and modifications; fiduciary removal lawsuits; creditorsâ claims in probate and trust proceedings; fiduciary accounting disputes; prosecution and defense of fiduciary claims; and statutory bills of review.
And while you can still find Jocelyn at the courthouse often, her current practice focuses on helping fiduciaries and beneficiaries navigate complex and disputed trust, probate, and guardianship administrations. Jocelyn also regularly serves as a court appointed attorney in both probate and guardianship matters for the Harris County Probate Courts.
