Biography

Tim Taylor focuses his practice on real estate and lending transactions. He represents individuals and businesses ranging from local investors to public companies in all aspects of real estate, from acquisition and development, to ownership, leasing, and management, and to subdivision and disposition. Tim devotes significant time to land acquisition and development, particularly residential subdivisions and mixed use developments, and he also works with local governments on land use and development issues for his clients. Tim has extensive experience in complex ground lease transactions, as counsel for both landlords and tenants.

Tim represents financial institutions in a wide variety of lending transactions, but with a focus on real estate loans (acquisition, development, and construction). In addition to real estate and lending, Tim works closely with other attorneys at Jackson Walker on matters such as the selection and formation of entities for real estate transactions, asset and stock sales, and finance transactions.

Tim is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial Real Estate Law and Residential Real Estate Law.

Tim Taylor is recognized as one of the best real estate lawyers in Austin and Texas. He was ranked among Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business under Real Estate in 2012. He has also been named the 2013 “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America in the category of Real Estate (Austin) and has been listed as a Best Lawyer for Real Estate Law in the 2008-2023 editions. Tim has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters since 2003.

In 1998, Tim was honored as one of the recipients of the “Austin Under 40” award, given to recognize outstanding Austin citizens under the age of 40.

In 2003, he was named one of the best real estate lawyers in Austin by the Austin Business Journal, one of only four attorneys to receive such honor that year.

Tim was the recipient of the Commendation of Excellence Award by the Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA) for his contributions to RECA in 2007, and in 2011 RECA again recognized Tim with the Gary S. Farmer Commendation of Excellence Award. In 2016, RECA honored Tim with one of its highest awards, the Community Service Award.

In 2016, the Capitol Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored Tim as its Distinguished Citizen.

Tim is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Association of Bank Counsel. He is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Community Involvement

Tim is an active leader in many civic and community organizations and activities, with over three decades of service in the Austin community.

Tim began his service on the Board of Directors of The Real Estate Council of Austin in 1995. In 2003, Tim served as President of RECA and chaired RECA’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as sitting on the boards for both the RECA Good Government PAC and the RECA Business MPAC. In 2016, after 20 years as a director, Tim retired from the RECA board. Tim remains active in the RECA Past Chairs’ Council and is a director of the RECA Good Government PAC.

In 2007, Tim became active with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, serving as HAAM Benefit Day committee chairman. He continued in that role in 2008 and 2009, also joining the HAAM Board of Directors in 2008. In 2010, he was elected chairman of the HAAM Board, a position he held through December 2012. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

Tim has served on Board of Directors of the Greater Austin Crime Commission since 2011. In 2012, Tim became one of the five founding directors of the Austin Council on Foreign Affairs, and he continues to serve on the board of directors. Tim serves on the Community Advisory Board for Caritas of Austin, having chaired that board in 1996 and in 1998.

Tim was President of the Headliners Club in 2004, and served on the Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2018. Tim rejoined the Headliners Club Board in 2020. In 2020, Tim is co-chair for special events and is on the membership committee.

In 2018, Tim accepted a position as Board Member for The University of Texas Foundation, Inc., an organization dedicated to the educational advancement of the fourteen institutions comprising The University of Texas System.

In 2006, Tim was appointed by Mayor Will Wynn to the City of Austin’s Affordable Housing Incentives Task Force. Elected as a Co-Chair of that task force, Tim helped guide a diverse group of affordable housing advocates, neighborhood activists, real estate developers, and other stakeholders through a collaborative process that culminated with the Austin City Council’s passage of an affordable housing incentives ordinance in 2007. In 2013, Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell asked Tim to serve on the Central Corridor Advisory Group, which worked with the Mayor and the City of Austin Transportation Department on transportation issues.

Tim has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce as well as General Counsel for the Chamber in 2001 and 2002. Tim was instrumental in the establishment of the Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation in 2003, and he served on that Board (which runs the very successful Opportunity Austin economic development program) and as its general counsel until 2015. Tim served on the board of directors of Leadership Austin from 2007-2010. He is a past president and past board member of the Young Men’s Business League and the Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps and also served on the Board of Directors of the YMBL Sunshine Foundation. Tim has been a long-time supporter of the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, as a co-founder of the Children’s Hospital Council and serving as co-chair of that Council in 1997, and also having co-chaired the 1997 Children’s Hospital Gala. Tim has served many other charitable and civic organizations in Austin, and he has been a Director of the Capitol Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Washington & Lee University Central Texas Alumni Chapter, Center for Battered Women (now SafePlace), Ronald McDonald House, and the West Austin Youth Association.
