For more than a decade, Jackson Walker partner Kurt D. Nondorf has taken part in the annual Covenant House Executive Edition “Sleep Out.” Houston-area business leaders spend the night meeting with homeless youth, hearing the personal stories of Covenant House residents, and sleeping on the ground to support Covenant House Texas, which provides sanctuary and support for homeless and abandoned youth.
Kurt, who serves as Board Development Chair and Capital Campaign Committee Co-Chair for Covenant House Texas, led the candlelight vigil at this year’s Sleep Out that began the evening. Kurt was joined at the event on November 17 by S. Priya Coffey, Kirk Tucker, and Joe R. Savoie.
In an interview with Click2Houston (KPRC-TV), Kurt and fellow Covenant House Texas board member Steven Biegel discussed how the annual Sleep Out raised crucial funds to help build a new campus in Montrose.
“The money that we raise through this event has, over the period of time we’ve been doing this, allowed us to house about four thousand kids, to provide jobs for about 1,200, and provide 720,000 nights of shelter,” Kurt said.
