Biography
Valery Piedra is an attorney in the corporate section of Jackson Walkerâs Houston office. Valery assists clients in various business matters, including joint ventures, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, advertising/branding (including NIL matters), general contract review and serving as outside general counsel. Valery works in a broad range of industries including real estate, fashion/retail, entertainment, and sports.
Prior to law school, Valery worked in sales/marketing where she represented several international brands. While in law school, Valery represented her school in several national advocacy competitions, participated in the Trademark Clinic where she assisted family-owned business on trademark/branding matters, and served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Alfred H. Bennett of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Jackson Walker Congratulates 2025 Texas Super Lawyers and Rising Stars
Jackson Walker is pleased to announce the recognition of 75 attorneys by Thomson Reutersâ Super Lawyers in the 2025 “Texas Super Lawyers” list, as well as 66 attorneys as “Texas Rising Stars” for 2025. Each year, less than 5% of attorneys are selected to Super Lawyers and 2.5% to Rising Stars. Selection is based off of peer nominations that are then reviewed by a research team. Each nominee is evaluated on his or her professional accomplishments, peer recognition, and community involvement.

Texas Expands Mini-TCPA: New Requirements Under Senate Bill 140

Texas has expanded its âmini-TCPAâ telemarketing law with the passage of Senate Bill 140, that may create new compliance obligations for businesses that send text messages or initiate calls to or from Texas. In addition to the general requirements of the federal TCPA, covered entities may now be required to register with the state and post a bond before conducting certain outbound calls or texts.

In talent agreements, a morality clause allows film producers to terminate a contract if the talent has engaged in certain socially objectionable behavior or otherwise ends up in a scandal that might harm the project.
