Biography
Joel Glover handles high-stakes litigation nationwide. His proven track record spans a wide range of industries and complex commercial disputes, including matters involving energy and natural resources, media and First Amendment issues, banking and financial services, trademark infringement, sports, real estate, and more. Across all industries, Joel’s practice is built on a simple premise: join the client’s team, understand the business, and navigate to where the client wants to go, whether that is the bargaining table or the jury box.
His practice takes him to state and federal courts across the country for plaintiffs and defendants, with clients ranging from Fortune 10 companies to startups. He also has extensive experience before arbitration panels, as well as state and federal regulatory bodies. Joel is as comfortable in a major metro as he is in any smaller jurisdiction across Texas and beyond. Wherever the case lands, he gives guidance that fits the needs of the case and the client’s broader business goals, outworks his opponents, and coordinates across practice areas at Jackson Walker to deliver creative, tailored, and efficient results.
Joel has developed particular depth in media and First Amendment matters, where he defends news organizations, production companies, private companies, and public figures against defamation, privacy, and other speech-related claims—and has secured dismissals of high-profile cases under the Texas Citizens Participation Act and other anti-SLAPP statutes nationwide.
He is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation, by Thomson Reuters as a Texas Super Lawyer, by the Legal 500 as an Elite practitioner in Commercial Litigation, and by Lawdragon as one of America’s 500 Leading Litigators. He volunteers his time on the Board of Directors of Houston’s Alley Theatre—one of the best professional theatres anywhere—and on the sidelines of his boys’ teams.
Joel is a West Texas native who loves living in Houston, where he and his wife can routinely be found chasing their two young boys around sports fields and their other activities.

Supreme Court of Texas Runs at the Low Hurdle of Prima Facie Evidence in Anti-SLAPP Motion Practice
The Supreme Court of Texas recently addressed the quantum of evidence required for a plaintiff to support a prima facie case and survive a motion to dismiss brought under the Texas Citizens Participation Act, Texas’s anti-SLAPP statute. Those wishing to dismiss SLAPP suits, take note of the USA Lending v. Winstead PC opinion: what a plaintiff must show “is not a high hurdle.” Instead, a plaintiff need only provide “evidence necessary to rationally infer that an allegation is true.”

Truth Remains a Strong Ground for Summary Judgment in Texas
By Joel Glover
A Texas court reaffirmed last month that truth is still a defense to a defamation claim against a newspaper regarding a matter of public concern. In Gallaher v. Denton Media Company, the Fort Worth Court of Appeals reinforced the statutory protections afforded to journalists against such claims and explained the contours of the defense. Gallaher is significant because it shows the defense’s strength even in the face of conflicting accounts about the accuracy of sources considered prior to publication.
